Here is a performance that gently mixes Sylvie Paquette’s sensuality with Monsieur Mono’s nostalgia. Here is an ideal occasion to witness two renowned signer-songwriters perform each other’s material.
Following stints with Possession Simple and Les Chiens, 2009 saw the adventures of Monsieur Mono lead to “Petite musique de pluie”, a personal and romantic album and stage performance.

Sylvie Paquette’s fourth album “TAM TAM” has been nominated for Contemporary Folk Album of the Year at the 2008 edition of “L’autre Gala de L’ADISQUE” and her live performances have been more than praised by critics and public alike.

Mountains is Brendon Anderegg and Koen Holtkamp, friends since their middle school days. The duo were brought together by mutual artistic and musical interests, and both ended up at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. It was during this time that they began exchanging musical ideas and compositions which led to them founding the Apestaartje label in 1999. As their collaborations and individual projects blossomed, they decided to create Mountains as a vehicle for live performance.
A love of sculpting sound in front of an audience is at the heart of Mountains. The group has 3 albums: their first self-titled release and second album Sewn were both on Apestaartje; the third, Choral, on Thrill Jockey. Mountains is often compared to artists such as Brian Eno and Fennesz, citing their extended melodies and their unique broad guitar work. Mountains seamlessly blend pastoral electronic sounds with field recordings and a plethora of acoustic instruments. The resulting soundscapes are broad in scope and rich in detail. The effect is incredibly sublime and hypnotic as the sounds slowly wrap themselves around each other and alter themselves in the mind of the listener. Choral, their third album, is a uniquely soothing and addicting listening experience and an aural crazy quilt: warm and inviting with many details to discover and explore.

David Daniell and Douglas McCombs first met in early 2006 while touring as members of Rhys Chatham's six-guitar "Die Donnergötter" band. Following that tour, the two spent several months trading albums and discussing making music together; they began their musical collaboration when Daniell moved from New York to Chicago later that year to study pedal steel guitar.
These humble beginnings do little to reflect the depth and breadth of each of their talents; both are highly-respected musicians within their circles. Over the years Daniell has collaborated with many notable musicians, including Loren Connors, Rhys Chatham, Tim Barnes, Jeph Jerman, Thurston Moore, Greg Davis, and Jonathan Kane, as well as releasing numerous albums under his own name and with his band San Agustin on labels such as Table of the Elements and Family Vineyard. McCombs is more often seen wielding a bass guitar, whether as a member of Eleventh Dream Day, the acoustic collective Pullman, or the pioneering and inimitable Tortoise; in his role as the driving force behind Brokeback; or through his varied work with the likes of Tom Ze, Azita Youseffi, Will Oldham, Yo La Tengo, and Calexico.

In live settings, the duo of Daniell on electric guitar and McCombs on electric guitar and lap-steel is often expanded into a trio via the addition of a drummer.

The duo’s 2009 Thrill Jockey release Sycamore is the first album to document the music of this duo. Much like their live performances, Sycamore is a delicate tapestry of spacious and ethereal guitar lines woven into abstract, slow-burning and multi-layered textural improvisations. The sounds blend and overlap to create richly faceted and thickly psychedelic passages, unveiling new layers of detail with each and every listen.

Clues began building in secret in the summer of 2007, playing a series of un-advertised shows in small Montreal venues. Emerging above-ground in 2008, their first performances elicited passionate responses from both audiences and music media.
Clues was founded by Alden Penner and Brendan Reed, both active for years in the Montreal music scene. Alden was one-half of Unicorns, a band that burned bright and fast at the beginning of the century, and Brendan has been a member of a number of groups, including the endless, Endless Forever and Arcade Fire. In 2008, Clues recruited friends Ben Borden, Lisa Gamble, and Nick Scribner from the Montreal art & music scenes. Fully formed, Clues began work on a debut record.

During live shows and on recordings, the band share and trade-off on their extensive collection of instruments and create a hopeful, urgent music that expands Montreal’s (already diverse) pop music lexicon, with references to post-punk and experimental music traditions. Clues concerts incorporate multiple drummers, a Commodore 64, and an OLPC.

Through their founding and early work as a band, Clues has remained close to home, dedicated to collaborating with and supporting fellow independent artists. In 2008, Reed started VillaVillaNola.com, a curated digital music store with records by artists from Montréal and beyond who have flourished underground but who otherwise receive sparse attention. Strong ties to the indepen-dent music community, together with shared ideals have led Clues to a collaboration with Montreal’s Constellation Records, who will re-lease the band’s debut record in May of 2009.
